The announcement came on Wednesday, with the government saying that planning and design for the National Cricket Stadium and High Performance Centre in Blanchardstown’s National Sports Campus will kick off immediately.
They’re aiming to wrap up the planning phase by mid-2025, after which the tendering process will begin. The first phase, including a main cricket oval and permanent seating for 4,000 cricket-mad spectators, with room for temporary expansions, is expected to be ready by 2028.

Deutrom couldn’t hide his excitement, calling the news “absolutely fantastic.” He added, “This is a massive nod to everyone involved in Irish cricket, showing the government truly sees us as a sport worth backing. He also pointed out that a permanent venue will ensure Ireland can host the world’s best teams regularly and will be key when Ireland co-hosts the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with England and Scotland in 2030.

“It’s going to take a bit of time to get there—three, maybe four years before we start using the place—but today’s announcement is the starter’s gun on this grand project,” Deutrom said with optimism.
